Save Ta’ Cenc - a Petition (Verzjoni bil-Malti)
The beautiful coastal area at Ta’ Cenc in Gozo is one of the few remaining tracts of open countryside left in the Maltese Islands. An area of outstanding scenic beauty, it is also a vital habitat for dwindling communities of rare plants and animals.
Ta’ Cenc is now being threatened by a proposed development of 57 large villas, 49 bungalows, a five-storey hotel, 66 ‘tourist units’ and a full-size golf course, with the possibility of further development.
We believe that the development of Ta’ Cenc will degrade the Maltese Islands as a tourist destination, not improve it.
Ta’ Cenc lies outside the development zone established by the Structure Plan approved by the Maltese Parliament in 1992. We request that the Malta Environment and Planning Authority adheres to this Structure Plan and does not allow development in this area.
Finally, we urge the authorities to review their reasons for excluding Ta’ Cenc as a candidate for special protection as part of the European Natura 2000 network.
