SAVE TA’ CENC

The beautiful coastal area at Ta’ Cenc in Gozo is one of the few remaining tracts of open countryside left in the Maltese Islands. An area of outstanding scenic beauty, it is also a vital habitat for dwindling communities of rare plants and animals.

Ta’ Cenc is now being threatened by a proposed large development of 38 villas, 36 bungalows, an extension to the existing hotel and a new hotel, with the possibility of further development. We believe that the development of Ta’ Cenc will degrade the Maltese Islands as a tourist destination, not improve it.

Ta’ Cenc lies outside the development zone established by the Structure Plan approved by the Maltese Parliament in 1992. We request that the Malta Environment and Planning Authority adheres to this Structure Plan, which only permits some development in the vicinity of the existing hotel at Ta’ Cenc.

Thank you for your interest in Saving Ta' Cenc

The petition is now closed and was presented to the addressees in 2006. Over 10,000 persons signed this in just a few months of activity. Since then, revised plans have been submitted to the Malta Environment and Planning Authority by the developer. Thus the battle against the destruction of one of the last remaining tracts of countryside on the Maltese Islands continues. The fact sheet is currently being reviewed so as to present the latest developments. Please return to our site again to view this in the near future. In the meantime, opinions and articles and other information can be viewed through other links on this site.
